Erik Ahrens is an attorney who specialises in advising international companies on commercial and corporate law as well as foreign trade law. A particular focus of his practice lies in advising companies entering foreign markets, primarily in relation to the markets of Asia and the Middle East.
Even during his legal training, Erik always focused on international issues. Among others, he worked for the German Consulate General in Ho-Chi-Minh-City, Vietnam, as well as for various international law firms, where he gained initial experience in connection with cross-border transactions.
In the course of his professional career, he has further deepened his focus on content and international issues and regularly advises clients in connection with, for example, company formations abroad, cross-border M&A transactions, US sanctions law, the drafting of international distribution agreements or compliance issues.
Due to his work for the German Consulate General in Vietnam, the support of various mandates related to Southeast Asia and, last but not least, various stays in the region, Erik has extensive economic, political and legal knowledge regarding the region, especially with regard to Vietnam. Erik is a member of the East Asian Association and the Asia Committee of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce.
He is also a lecturer in commercial and corporate law at the University of Applied Sciences Europe and at the Young Academy of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. Erik is fluent in German and English.
